What you'll do
The Managed Services and Security Group builds, operates and lifecycles Cloud, Connectivity, Security and Managed Services products. The successful candidate is expected to contribute in delivering key building blocks for the group. As a Systems Engineer, you will join the Managed Services and Security Group. Working in an agile method you will flow to work into missions that deliver these enterprise solutions, designing, configuring, automating, operating and lifecycling under a DevOps culture. We will rely on you to take us further on our journey of digitisation and automation, all the while being customer focused to realise Telstra’s T25 strategy objectives. You use industry best practices, experience and advanced skills as an engineer. The successful candidate must able be to demonstrate strong technical skills and understand complex solutions. You will have the ability to understand business priorities to deliver outcomes for the Technical Product Owner.

This role is key to delivering:

Automated solutions for testing and deployment will reduce time to market (and therefore costs) allowing Telstra to respond quickly to changes in the market. Automation will ensure a quality product through repeatable, standardised and documented tool sets.

As a Systems Engineer within Enterprise and Security, you will..

  • Obtain agreement on the scope of the requirements stream and provide cost, resource, and time estimates where required

  • Analyse business needs and requirements based on consultation with key stakeholders and identify most suitable business process and/or training solution.

  • Partner with relevant project stakeholders to ensure traceability between business requirements and solution delivery.

  • In conjunction with the Senior Systems Engineers, participate in workshops with business and technical teams to understand solutions to requirements.

  • Participate in project reviews as required. · Gain understanding of as-is processes and drive development of to-be processes, ensuring coverage of sales, order to activate, billing, assurance, and customer management, including adds / moves / changes / cancellations.

  • Discover systems utilised to develop full end-to-end process solutions across Telstra's large-scale environment of internal and external operational teams.

  • Proactively look for opportunities to automate tasks which add value to business

  • Undertake lifecycle activities and enhancements for the solution to meet performance and operational requirements.

  • Contribute to delivery of key products/solutions aligned to customers' expectations (both performance and features) to support achievement of customer satisfaction targets

  • Document activities to support the transition of skills relating to deployment and release processes to operations staff to build internal capability

  • Ensure that co-workers are treated respectfully and without any form of discrimination, harassment or victimisation.

  • Mentor, train and assist in the professional development of all members of the Enterprise and Security team

What you need to succeed
To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a Systems Admin/Engineering role

  • Some hands-on experience with Java and Python, developing utilities or scripts

  • Good understanding of APIs (REST/SOAP)

  • Understanding of Microsoft products and configuration

  • Microsoft user administration/management experience

  • Hands-on experience with Agile Tools (Jira, Confluence, GitLab/Bitbucket, Bamboo)

  • Ability to contribute towards solving complex business needs as part of team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving and time management skills

  • Experience in delivering projects as part of an agile team and exposure to DevOps teams, practices and tools

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills with a strong desire to learn and drive skills to advanced level in the domain

  • Proactive and self-motivated Desirable

  • A Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or similar discipline.

  • Good understanding of marketplace concepts and associated billing
